The Bully

This comic I made over a year ago, but I’ve touched it up since and I’m happy to share it on tumblr C: while I’ve improved immensely since I made this, I’m still really proud of myself for making it.

ps. this was during a stage in my art where I was a little texture heavy, heh heh

To suggest that one’s belly, body hair or tattoo is ‘distasteful’ and should therefore be covered in the name of etiquette is the very worst sort of body fascism. If your children are traumatised by the sight of a fat person in a bikini, a bit of cellulite or a caesarean scar, then may I tentatively suggest that you aren’t raising them correctly. If seeing someone hairy wearing something skimpy renders you ‘unable to eat your lunch’ then I’m afraid my diagnosis of the problem is with your brain, not their body.

On December 2, 1977, Variety published this open letter written by Steven Spielberg to George Lucas, in which Spielberg congratulates his friend on the recent success of Star Wars. The surrounding illustration (presumably provided by the staff at Variety), depicting R2-D2 casually reeling in the giant man-eating shark from Jaws, is incredibly awesome.

Good friends since the 60s, a healthy sense of competition had long been been present between the two, with Spielberg once remarking:
“He was always more competitive with me than I was with him. He kept saying, ‘I’m sure
Star Wars is going to beat Jaws at some point…’”
